BELT RANKING SYSTEM
At The Makeshift Dojo we follow a traditional karate belt system. Every students starts out at white and works up the ranks. The belt order goes, White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, 1st Degree Brown, 2nd Degree Brown, 3rd Degree Brown, 1st Degree Black.
(we do not currently provide Dan rankings higher than 1st)
Curriculum
We teach Shotokan Karate as our base martial arts curriculum, but in our self defense class we also teach techniques from Wing Chun, JKD, FMA, Boxing, Krav Maga, and Taekwondo. Our system has Katas (forms) from Shotokan Karate, such as the 5 Heian Katas, Bassai Dai, Jitte, and more!
Although we have a set curriculum, we are passionate about learning from martial art styles all over the world. We welcome and respect any belt rank from any style, although learning our curriculum and testing in is a requirement to advance in rank in our dojo.
